Expansi\u00f3n has recently published an extensive report on the peculiarities of having a sovereign state as a client, featuring contributions from Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Olivares-Caminal, Of Counsel at Kepler-Karst Law Firm and expert in sovereign debt restructuring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report highlights that Kepler-Karst became the first Spanish law firm to get involved in sovereign debt advisory services in 2024. The firm was selected by the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF), an entity established by the African Development Bank, to provide legal support in sovereign financing and debt restructuring matters for several countries on the continent. One of the ongoing projects focuses on restructuring Zimbabwe’s debt, which exceeds $20 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Rodrigo Olivares-Caminal, “The main peculiarity is that economic, political, social, and geopolitical aspects must be taken into account. While the repercussions of advising a company primarily impact the private sphere, the decisions made by a country directly affect its population” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
